LUTHER PARK BYTES: An e-newsletter with news that MUST get out.
MAY AT CAMP: Busy, busy, busy!

There is a lot of excitement around camp this month. Summer staff will arrive in just two weeks and the first campers will arrive in 4 weeks! We are busy getting campers registered, lining up volunteer nurses, preparing the Bible Study, creating crafts, preparing staff training, deep cleaning cabins, setting up the pool, and so much more! Yes indeed, summer really is on the way!

REGISTRATION UPDATE:

Economic stimulus’s are in the mail! We would like to suggest putting it back into the economy via Luther Park

Registrations to go by August 1, 2008: 398
We currently have 752 campers registered.

We had 51 registrations come in since the last Bytes!
Though many weeks still have plenty of room we have a couple programs that are FULL! And others still that are nearly full! The Explorers on the River canoe trip and Trailblazers Bridge Week 7 (July 20-22) are FULL! Power of Faith Week 7 (July 20-25) and Week 2 (June 15-20), Trading Spaces Week 6 (July 13-18) and Trailblazers Overnight Week 7 (July 20-25) are nearly full! It is urgent to reserve your space if you are interested in these quickly filling programs!

HELP STILL NEEDED! Luther Park needs volunteers

Luther Park had 1,000 White Pine trees delivered on May 7th, the trees will be sitting in a cooler (and they don’t to any good there) until Dave and Doug have a few willing volunteers to help plant them

We will not be ready to plant the trees until Tuesday, May 12. We have had a few people volunteer to help, yet we are still looking for a few more. We are hoping that you have a group of people, preferably a group of 8-10, who would be willing to help put the trees in their new home. We are flexible for dates and times.

When coming to camp this summer (and every summer after that - winters too, I suppose) you can see the fruits of your labor. Please contact me and let me know if you are interested in helping Luther Park make the earth a better, greener place - one tree at a time (in this case).

CROSS GENERATIONAL DAY CAMP: at Luther Park!

We also have more room for those of you that are interested in the Cross Generational Day Camp. The program has been growing the last couple of years and we hope to see that growth continue. This is a program for people of ALL AGES! Please let your congregation know about this opportunity. If you have campers that are prone to homesickness this program is the perfect one to help ease them into spending time at Luther Park. Families are highly encouraged to attend together. As a matter of fact different generations of the family are encouraged to attend, we will “cross the generations” at Luther Park each of these days.

The Cross Generational Day Campers will not only experience the “cross between generations” but they will also experience the vast array of activities that Luther Park has to offer - all in the same day!

EARTH KEEPERS: Please help us advertise this program!!

We have added a new Senior High program for this summer. Earth Keepers will be held August 3-8, 2008; the cost of the trip will be just $250 per camper, including a $100 deposit.  We are taking up to 10 Senior High (9-12 grade) campers.

Experienced Luther Park Coordinator, Chris Olson, will be leading the Earth Keepers. They will be traveling to Southern Wisconsin for a service learning week. When there they will focus on environmental stewardship through hands-on experiences all while learning about faith! They will work for a morning on a local, organic farm, tour an incredible food co-op, do a service project at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, hike in Devil’s Lake State Park and visit the nation’s *greenest* building and SO MUCH MORE!

If you would like to see the webpages of some of the sites they will be visiting please refer to our webpage, www.lutherpark.org, click on the Luther Park Bytes tab, find the archived Bytes dated April 24, 2008.

** Please note ** this program is NOT advertised in our summer brochure.  It is a field trip as part of Chris’ internship.  Senior High young people need to be made aware.  Please help us get the word out.

Luther Park Golf Outing (LPGO): June 23, 2008

The Fourth Annual LPGO is scheduled for Monday, June 23 at Sioux Creek Golf Course in Chetek. We have set it up in foursomes with room enough for 64 golfers. To register please contact Diana at the Luther Park office for a registration form.
Also, please consider helping us find one or more hole sponsors ($100 each) and/or items for our silent auction ($25 minimum value please).

After a great day of golf you can plan to join us for supper and the silent auction in the Luther Park Dining Hall. This will be a good chance for you to see your camp in action and filled with kids! The LPGO has been a lot of fun the last three years and it has raised some great income for the ministry at Luther Park. We would love for you to join us for our fourth LPGO.

LUTHER PARK’S ANNUAL AUCTION: August 10, 2008

Perhaps you are having a moving sale, garage sale, or just cleaning out your attic or garage. When you come across certain items that might be of value, whether antique or collectible, please remember Luther Park. We need your help in getting antiques, collectibles and quilts for this event. Please remember us with your (un)needed items. Our Annual Benefit Auction will be held August 10, 2008. For help getting your items to camp, please call 715-859-2215 and ask for Sherm or Diana.

VBS, PALS and then some:

We still have two weeks open for Vacation Bible School (VBS).  We have room the weeks of June 8-13 and July 6-11. Please call and ask for Linda.

We have had a great response to our plea for PALS! Thank you for spreading the word! We currently have all the positions filled! However, you can still send in your applications if you wish to be put on a waiting list.
